“Are you sure life isn’t a game?” Narrative and Gameplay in Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch

Academic paper written for a class on cross-media storytelling, which explores the ways in which Overwatch‘s narrative team generates engagement for the game’s lore by scattering it across in-game interactions, like voice lines, and external media like cinematics, short stories and comic books. Unlike the research-based projects on toxicity, this 2016 paper is focused more on identifying a unique (at the time) element to narrative and media design.
